Burns are very common, both in workplaces around the country and in homes. A burn can be anything from sunburn and nettle burns to scalding and electrical burns. Regardless of the type of burn you suffer, it is important to try to cool the affected skin as quickly as possible. This way, you can reduce the risk of the burn going deeper into the skin, while also reducing both pain and swelling in the affected person.
Cooling with both room temperature water and burn dressings has been shown to have a soothing effect on burns (Coats et al. 2001; Rajan et al. 2009). The article The effect of gel burns dressings on skin temperature states that gel burns dressings often give the best results when they are not covered, a method often used by healthcare professionals.
At home, you can use lukewarm water to cool down burns, but on occasions when running water is not available, burn gel, or so-called burn compresses and burn spray, may be necessary to prevent the burn from becoming too serious and causing the victim great pain.
Burn gel and burn gel compresses are therefore common in first aid kits and first aid kits. They should be in first aid bags at all workplaces and preferably also at home, where burns can easily occur in the kitchen or from the iron.
We have burn dressings with gel that quickly cools burns and prevents the burn from spreading further into the skin and thus causing even greater damage. Our burn gel from Dahl Medical contains the natural oil tea tree oil which helps with healing. The dressing keeps the wound clean and moist while the gel cools the skin.
From Cederroth there is Burn Gel Spray, which is a burn gel in a spray bottle. The bottle is easy to handle, which makes the spray easy to apply to the damaged skin. This gel is suitable for treating minor burns such as scalded skin and sunburn. Burn Gel Spray can be used in both the home and workplace. It provides both a protective barrier to the skin while cooling the damaged area. The spray bottle can also be used until it is finished and therefore does not need to be discarded as soon as the lid has been opened.
Cederroth Burn Gel Dressing, on the other hand, is a compress with a cooling gel that can quickly cool down larger burns. This compress should be in workplaces where running water is lacking and in the equipment of healthcare personnel. Use it on everything from scalds to electrical burns that need to be quickly cooled down and pain relieved.
Our range also includes Burn Cover, so-called sterile hydrogel patches. When using these, the burned skin heals faster. However, before applying the patches, the skin must be cooled down, either with lukewarm water or a burn gel. Burn Cover from Cederroth is waterproof and can also be used when handling food.
